Chat With Me

I’m feeling very chatty tonight! So this will be a babbling type of post.

The last couple of days have been pretty interesting. I’m experiencing some serious swelling! Its mostly in my hands and face but we were pretty active yesterday so my feet are slightly swollen and sore today. 20140113-153436.jpgIts pretty noticeable to me in this picture from my Wordless Weekend post. It looks like a looooong cry but I didn’t. I also had to take my wedding ring off. Boo. The good news….that Seahawks t-shirt is wayyyy too big! Thank Goodness! I borrowed it from my father-in-law.

Speaking of Seahawks…The game this weekend was awesome but I’m nervous for the game next weekend. Eek. Truth be told, I have very little interest in football but my hubs loves it so I’ve watched most of the games this year.

Yesterday, Blake and I took Kia for a walk and I was having some pretty uncomfortable pain. I hope its a sign that everything is moving right along and I’ll be holding my baby soon! Later in the afternoon we went to Wenatchee with our closest friends. It was so nice to get to hangout with our friends and do a little shopping. We didn’t purchase a lot of stuff but we did get a new bed spread and a Jack La Lanne juicer (just like the one I was borrowing! It was on SALE at Costco).  I can’t wait to have some fresh juice again!

2013-09-29 15.07.03-2

I also picked up a few things for the baby. Letters to put her initials on the wall, felt to make something special, and a pack of bottles. I am planning to breastfeed but I will eventually need to pump when I go back to work.

Have you heard of eMeals? I’ve been lucky enough to get to try out their service and I’m LOVING it. Look at this delicious soup I made tonight…

2014-01-13 18.14.52Spicy Taco Soup. Mm..mmm..mmm…delicious. This will be a repeat meal for sure. Doesn’t hurt that they say spicy food can bring on labor. Although the heartburn tonight could be killer. Maybe I shouldn’t have taken that risk.

Also, I’ve been seriously hungry lately. Like seriously. I often wonder, how is it possible to be this hungry all the time? I need something to eat at least every two hours.

I’ve definitely re-fallen in love with blogging over the last few weeks. Although I’m still working on switching my brain over….remembering to take photos and notes of what I’d like to write about it. It feels really good to write about whatever comes to mind. I’ve actually been thinking about “re-branding” this blog. I like writing about life and fun things I’ve been doing, and I know I’ll be writing about baby Elizabeth all time. (sorry, I’m not sorry) I wonder if that means I need to change the title of my blog? I still want to write about fitness, running, and losing the baby weight, but it probably won’t be the predominate topic around here anymore.  I’m still mulling things over. Maybe a fresh headline would work.

What do you think? I’d love to hear what you think.

2014-01-09 19.22.19-2Lastly, the baby’s room is ready! Or at least as ready as its going to be while we live in this house. I’m going to work on editing the pictures so you guys can see everything. I’m super excited!

I think that’s everything on my mind tonight. Thanks for stickin’ around!

Good night! Hopefully the nursery post will be ready tomorrow.

WIAW: Jan 8

It’s been a LONG time since I’ve done a What I Ate Wednesday post, but guess what I totally remembered to take pictures of meals yesterday! Can you believe it?

The truth is I’m completely burnt out on food and eating. I’ve lost all creativity. I’ve lost all desire to munch on veggies and fruits. I just feel BLAH about food. I’m bored with cooking. I’m bored with shopping. Like I said…I’m blah.

So here it is…everything, and I mean everything I ate yesterday. Its not my healthiest, most creative, or most exciting day of meals but its a jumping off point…because I’m starting something totally new tomorrow. Something I’m really excited about.

Banana & Peanut Butter Rolled Oats for breakfast at my desk.2014-01-07 08.42.15I didn’t have much of an appetite this morning so I only ate about half. I had to run to the store to pick up a birthday card during my lunch break so I saved my leftovers and bought some hot soup.2014-01-07 13.05.29Baked potato soup with a roll and juice. Totally hit the spot.

I’ll be completely honest and admit that my one pregnancy “craving” has been cinnamon swirled donuts either with maple frost or just glazed. So I had one with my lunch…2014-01-07 13.15.51And I don’t even feel guilty about it. I wish I had another one right now. Later in the afternoon I snacked on few Dark Chocolate & Almond Dove squares.2014-01-07 15.48.54My dinner….well its pretty ugly but it was so delicious!2014-01-07 18.45.00Its so ugly, I almost want to delete the picture. But it was really good! A lady at work suggested this to me after I told her that I made really terrible and dry pork chops last night and I didn’ tknow what to do with them now. She recommended a casserole…. It starts with a can of cream of mushroom soup in the bottom of a baking dish, pork chops on top of that. Next you cover it with frozen corn but I used and canned…and lastly a box of prepared Stovetop. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30mins .Yum!

I like to think of this as a Grandma type casserole! It sounded weird but was totally delish. The porkchops were no longer dry !And I finished off the night with a glass of chocolate milk.

Like I said…not my most healthy of days but whatever. I’m going to do better. I’m going to getmore veggies in……less chocolates. I’m thinking I’ll start recording in MyFitnessPal again, not because I need to lose weight but because I want to get the habit of recording my foods for after the baby comes. I’ve let too many of old good habits slip while I’ve been preggers, its no tgood. I need to fix this….NOW

I do have to admit that knowing I was taking pictures of each meal made me stop and think a little bit….which is why I had only one donut and not two…. I know, I’m terrible…..but that baby really likes donuts.

And with that….Im out here!

Make A Lifestyle Change This Year

Did you put “eat healthy” or “lose weight” on your list of New Year’s resolutions….again?

Don’t worry, we’ve all been there! Desperately hoping this is the year to lose weight, be more active, join the gym,  and start eating healthy….

Guess what! There’s good news! You can succeed! And you WILL succeed! You just have to change your mindset a little bit.

You need to make a lasting lifelong change! You need to make eating healthy a way of life. You need to make it a lifestyle rather than a diet. I’m sure you’ve heard those words over and over and that’s because its true!

Trust me, I’ve been there! I once lost 14 lbs in two weeks, by following the South Beach Diet….as soon I stopped the diet, I gained the weight back just as quickly as I’d lost it. This is why you will hear over and over and over again- that diets just don’t work. You have to make a change that you can stick with for life. Sure, you will have a few indulgences  here and there but in order to keep the weight off forever, you have to really make a change in the way you eat. Plain and simple.

Baby A: Week 24 & 25

I’m late again on a couple of baby posts, but seriously, the last few weeks have been no joke.

Last week I was suffering a slight cold, its still lingering. And this week has just been a mess of crappy things on top of a huge deadline at work. Needless to say, I’m so relieved it’s Friday!

Anyway, lets get on to the baby bump update!

babyMy little peanut is growing, growing, growing! What to Expect says, she about 2 pounds now and 9 inches long…about the size of an eggplant. We have less than 100 days until she’s due to arrive! And there’s so much to do…….ah….

Baby has really been jumping around all the time…I think she’s been doing jumping jacks in there. I love feeling her move. Especially when I can feel her from the outside, its such a special moment, every time. I can’t wait to hold my baby girl.

I will admit pregnancy has NOT been a walk in the park the last few days…er weeks. I have crazy bad heartburn, hot flashes, and back pain most days. Then we have the leg cramps in the middle of the night, tossing and turning all. night. long., oh and the feeling that I need to pee constantly except I really don’t have to go. Blah. I know that this cold or sinus infection I’ve been battling is not helping, but really things have been rough.

DSC_0206I thought about leaving the picture out because its not “good”, I look tired and fat and you can’t even really see the bump.It is what it is…. And hey, my outfit was cute!

Is it ok that its not all glitter and rainbows?

I sure hope so, because I feel like a mess right now. I’m just crying and exhausted! And I have no idea why I am crying now.

I feel like I’m working hard to deal with my weight. I want to tell myself it will be ok, but it doesn’t feel like it will be. I know I’m supposed to gain some weight, but I see the fat in my face and it hurts. I didn’t want to gain any more weight than I needed to and I’ve already done that. I wanted to be the fit and healthy pregnant lady and now I just feel fat!

I just have to cut out the junk food and get moving again. This week has been moving in the right direction. I ate more mindfully, but I’m struggling to even have an appetite…I’m hungry but nothing sounds good. I got in a good workout. Only one so far but I worked a lot of overtime this week…that puts a damper on things. I started a sweat session tonight but after about 20 minutes I started seeing stars, so I decided to stop the workout and eat dinner. I’m thinking it’s because I didn’t have anything to eat for several hours except a little bit of jerky. I think I’ll just do my prenatal yoga DVD here in a little bit and call it good for tonight. Tomorrow I’ll be doing a virtual 5K using walk/run intervals so I’ll get a good burn.

I know things will turn up soon… just a rough few weeks. Here’s hoping I can recuperate this weekend!

Putting Some Money On The Line

If I had more time to blog, I would have told you about the stupid food choices I made this week! Like eating half a veggie pizza one night, a burger with fries or chicken burrito with rice and beans. Ummm, I ate out four times this week! Oh make that five, I also had Subway for lunch one day. Unbelievable!

Sure it was my birthday, perhaps a good excuse to indulge, but birthdays are only one day!

This just proves to me that I still have more to learn to make this a lifestyle. I love veggies, so why do I never order then at a restaurant? I don’t know. All day Saturday I planned to get a taco salad, then when we got to there I ordered at chicken burrito. Ugh!

So where does this leave me?

Up 7 pounds. That’s where.

I know some of its just water weight from eating high fat, high salt food and nearly no veggies. To be up that much sucks! Like a lot.

I’m so close to goal, I can feel it! I have to get there!

Now I’m a (wo)man with a plan!

I’m going to try and focus myself a little differently. For a long time it was about portion control, now that I’ve figured that out I’m going to focus on number of servings in each food group.

So yes, I only eat 1/2 cup of pasta but through out the day I’ve also had two slices of bread, oatmeal, a granola bar, and potatoes. Ok maybe not all of that, but you get the picture! Often times I eat vegetables at dinner but only fruit the rest of day.

I really think this will help me get in more fruit and vegetables but also limit excess carbs. I don’t want to cut out bread and pasta but I do need to keep them in check because I easily eat too many each day.

I also bought this to help me keep track!

I love using myfitnesspal but I’d like to include more information for myself. I have trouble with digestion which includes a number of gross symptoms, I’d like to figure out what triggers those! This little notebook is my new best friend! Plus it’s super cute.

To ensure I stay on track, I placed a Diet Bet on myself! The hosts of the bet are Olivia and Hannah from the Biggest Loser. I just love them!

If there is one thing I hate most it’s wasting money! The thought of losing $25 because I was lazy makes me cringe. It also helps that there is a chance that I could win some extra money and get to meet Olivia and Hannah! No joke, I would do almost anything to visit New York City.

Today was the first day of this new found energy towards eating right, and it’s been excellent so far!

My workouts have pretty dang excellent as well. One place where I have no trouble. Here’s a quick recap of the week.

FitnessGlo workouts focused on strength and weights.

Bob Harpers Ultimate Cardio DVD

Short run. Didn’t even track it, probably about 1.5-2 miles. Then my in laws stopped by!

Rest. I wanted to run but I was so tired I fell asleep super early! Oops.

Long run. 6.5 miles! It was crazy windy but I managed to keep a steady pace the whole time. I really felt it in my legs afterwards.

I’d say overall it was a decent week. Both jobs were high stress this week. I’m working around 60 hours this week, so extra busy but not super stressful. I’m hopeful I will still get in at least four days, maybe 5!

Wow this ended up being long!

Hope you have a great week!

Thursday Already?

Hi there!

This week is just flying by, how can it be almost Friday? Then again, every week seems to fly by lately.

I’m definitely finding myself in a routine, and it’s totally working for me. As soon as I get home from work I do my workout, eat dinner, then relax. I could be more efficient in the mornings though that’s for sure. Typically, I wake up and then lay in bed for long time going through my social media and reading blogs. I should probably use that time to do some housework, because it seems like a clutter bomb detonated in here.

Yesterday, I ended up going to work early so I had to rearrange this week’s dinner plans, so I made Salsa Chicken in the crock pot. Seriously, easiest dinner ever. Put frozen chicken in the crock, sprinkle with taco seasoning, then cover with salsa. Cook on low for 6ish hours. After 6 hours, you can basically shred the chicken just by looking at it. No joke, I used a whisk to smash it because the only serving spoon we have was in the dishwasher. In the past, I’ve stirred in a little sour cream or plain greek yogurt to make it creamy but last night I just left it and it was perfect.

taco and taco saladI had one taco on a whole wheat low fat tortilla, and then a big ol’ taco salad, with mixed spring greens, tomatoes, salsa, cheese and greek yogurt. The exact same thing was in the taco. It was pretty dang good. Although, I’m getting a little bit tired of spring greens and this box seems to have way too much arugula which I do not like one bit.

This morning, my bestie, I never say that word… asked me to accompany her to Wenatchee to get a new social security card. It was nice to get out of town for a bit, even for a quick trip. The social security office was quick so then we headed out in search of food.

Of course, we ended at Red Robin. YUM. I ordered the Grilled Turkey burger sans bun and mayo. I figured I’d rather eat fries than a bun. I don’t need two servings of white carbs at one meal, and you know, what I didn’t miss that bun one bit. Burgers without buns are extra juicy! And my fries were delish, like always.

red robin appI used the Red Robin iPhone App to find the nutrition facts of meal! Its so nice to be able have that kind of information at your finger tips. If you eat at Red Robin, I highly suggest downloading this free app. (Red Robin did not pay me to say this stuff, its all my own thoughts, but if they wanted to give me free food-I’d say yes. Or even just some of that seasoning salt)

After lunch we stopped at Old Navy to take a peak at the new Active line everyone is talking about. Let me tell you, that stuff is cute! But sadly, we did not purchase anything today. But we did get frozen yogurt!

froyoUnder all those toppings is cookies n cream yogurt, topped with strawberries, blueberries, graham cracker crumbs and a chocolate sauce. mmm mm mm.

It was a fun day! We needed girl time and holla cuz she got a new (amazing) job today!! Good thing we pre-celebrated!

And now, I’m off to sweat it out. I’m not sure what workout I’m going to do though…maybe Extreme Shed and Shred, haven’t done that in a while!

Meal Plan & Shopping

This morning Blake and I finally got around to meal planning and grocery shopping for the week. I’ve got to say I’m kind of excited about the things I have planned to eat this week.

groceries Here’s our haul!
When I was putting the stuff up on the check stand, I was thinking, “Dang! This one healthy cart!”
I’m excited to try that new granola from Cascadian Farm, its only 70 calories per 1/4 cup and it has dark chocolate almonds! It will be very tasty on top of my yogurt and overnight oats. Blake wanted to try the Kashi GoLean Crunch, I’m not sure if he will like it, but I know I do.

Breakfasts: The usual: eggs, overnight oats, or waffles.
Lunches: Leftovers and salads with cucumber and little tomatoes.
Tuesday: Spaghetti with meat sauce and cauliflower on the side (I wanted meatballs but Blake doesn’t like them…who doesn’t like meatballs!?!)
Wednesday: Pork Tenderloin Roast with Winter Vegetables from this Weight Watchers cookbookThursday: Skinny Chicken Alfredo minus the broccoli since Blake won’t eat it
Friday: Crockpot Salsa Chicken with beans
Saturday: French Dips and salad

Here’s our fruit basket this week:

fruitAll of those bananas will be gone before the end of the week! We…most Blake…go through a LOT of bananas. We are trying those pink navel oranges for the first time.

I also found some fun things for me to try:

IMG_2942I’m super in love with dark chocolate, so I’m looking forward to trying that Dark Chocolate Almond milk. I though I’d save it for after a tough workout. The Dark Chocolate Peppermint Pretzel crisps were only $1 but they are dangerous, so I only got one bag. Those nut butters were in the discontinued section and will be great to have around. I’ve actually never had cashew butter.

I’m already looking forward to cooking and eating this week.

What delicious things do you have planned this week?
