Make A Lifestyle Change This Year

Did you put “eat healthy” or “lose weight” on your list of New Year’s resolutions….again?

Miss Moody

That’s me. Oh but wait I’m married, so I’m Mrs. Moody. Seriously, I go from happy to upset in time flat. And for no reason whatsoever. Its frustrating, because I don’t understand it!

This was very good week in fitness. I got in 458 minutes of exercise! And I took last Sunday and  Monday off to rest my shoulder. Funny enough, the rest didn’t help but the pain is gone now. So this is what my week looked like:
Monday: REST
Tuesday: Bob’s Total Body DVD and some dancing to warm-up
Wednesday: Bob’s Ultimate Cardio DVD and some dancing to warm-up
Thursday: Jillian’s Extreme Shed and Shred plus my arms workout and extra crunches
Friday: Level 1 of the 30 Day Shred
Saturday: Bob’s Beginner Transformation DVD, boxing to warm-up and 30 minutes of yoga
Sunday: Boxing, dancing, yoga, and Jillian’s Metabolism Boost DVD

With a total of 4284 calories burned!

Plus I already bragged about growing muscles. And speaking of boxing…I totally never mention that my amazing husband got me a punching bag for Christmas! Its so awesome! I need to get hand wraps because it hurts my knuckles, but I can do short workouts on it. I like to play some power songs and punch it out for a little extra warm-up. If you have any good boxing workouts let me know! Right now, I just go from memory and do some punch combos. I’ve search online and can’t find anything.

As great as I feel about this week. I had a little bit of rough time because the scale barely moved. I feel good about how far I’ve come but I still want more. I know it takes time, but some days its tough to keep going. I don’t even know how to explain it really. This is just a bad day (or few) talking.

The plan for this week is just keep doing what I’m doing. Workout DVDs everyday. Oh and my new yoga today!! It has plenty of short workouts so I think I will try and do some yoga everyday. Even 15 minutes will be beneficial if that’s all I can fit in. The weather channel said it might be near the 40s here late next week so maybe I can starting running again. No promises there. I’m such a baby when it comes to cold weather running.

Anyway, I’m working on a progress page and a few more things for the blog, plus I’m making all new signs for work so there’s a lot to get done!

Top 5 Food Groups & A Recipe

I’ve been joking about my Top Five Food Groups my whole life. You know the five categories of foods you love the most….in no particular order…

Gravy. All types of gravy. Brown, white, sausage…I love gravy. Should be on the list twice I love it so much.
Bread. Bread is my lifeline. I HAVE to keep my bread eating in check, if not I will eat a loaf of French Bread every chance I get. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve picked up a load at the grocery store and finished half of it on the drive home.
Chocolate. Chocolate is of course its own food group. No one would dispute that.
Spaghetti and its close relatives. Spaghetti with marinara is my favorite food. OF ALL. I was once told that only poor people love spaghetti. After I punched that guy in the face (that part was dream, but I wish I could have) I decided that I have no problem with being poor as long as I get to eat tons of spagetti.
Breakfast. I love all aspects of breakfast, pancakes, eggs, biscuits and gravy (goes back to number one!)

The last one brings me to the recipe I have to share! I’m not sure where Overnight Oats started but I first saw them on Kath Eat Real Food but they are all over the internet now.

The Best Overnight Oats….EVER. Or that I’ve ever made.

IMG_2834 The Oats:
1/3 cup quick oats
1/3 cup milk
1/3 cup vanilla Greek yogurt (I used half of a Dannon Oikos container)1/2 banana
splash of pure vanilla extract

Mix all those ingredients together in a jar or bowl and put in the fridge overnight. I used a spoon to smash up the banana as mush as possible. I also have this weird obsession with saving all jars (I blame Pinterest for my hoarding) that come into my house so I made mine in small jar.

Topping:1/2 cup frozen wild blueberries thawed
1/4 cup vanilla granola

Put these the toppings on when ready to eat. I like to put half the granola on at time so I don’t get to the bottom and have no crunchies left.

Oh my goodness. Delish! The thing I love about oatmeal is that it can be whatever you want, use anything you have on hand. Versatility!

Love Yourself Unconditionally

One of the ways I stayed motivated is by using Instagram to follow like-minded people. It all started with past contestants from the Biggest Loser, then I found some other people who are also trying to lose weight and be healthy. Now I have a bunch of people that I follow who post sweaty pictures, healthy meals, and inspirational quotes. These things really help to inspire and motivate me.

I kind of feel stalkerish because I don’t know these people but I love following them and some even have blogs or youtube channels which I also follow, but hey if they didn’t want to be cyberstalked they wouldn’t allow strangers to follow them right?!

The other day of the girls I follow posted a youtube video and it really resonated with me. You can check out her video here, I feel like embedding it would be wayyyyy to stalker like. A couple of high notes, or things that really stuck with me. She said she’s tried to lose weight before and didn’t really succeed but it’s happening this time because she’s never had self hate. I totally related to this, for years I’ve hated myself, in the last few months I’ve said goodbye to that hate. The biggest changes have come in the last few weeks, which of course, has helped me to hit huge milestones. The moment I looked in the mirror and thought, I’m beautiful, is the moment my weight started to matter less and less and ironically when the pounds started to come off. I started being happy with who I am, and what I look like right now and then I started to see changes in myself. I started to feel strong. I started to feel skinny. Which makes me work harder because I love myself, I’m so proud of me that I want to do more for me. I’m pretty self-centered, this I know.

Loving myself is fueling my weight loss. I thought losing weight would make me happier but turns out loving me for me is what makes me happier.

IMG_2815I love this one because its a reminder that I have to work to make my goals a reality, I just can’t wish for things to happen. (Also taken from pinterest.) How many times have you heard people say “I want to lose weight” but they aren’t actively trying. You can’t just want something. It doesn’t work that way. When you want a new sweater you don’t sit at home thinking about sweaters, hoping one will magically appear. You have to go out and get it! You have to think of goals just like that sweater.

You do have to work for what you want, but if you love yourself unconditionally it will be a lot easier. I’ve been there, I’ve hated myself for way too long, now that I’m on the other side of I can tell you the grass really is greener over here. Just hop over that fence and see for yourself!

Active Rest Day

I’m going to make this short and sweet because I’m not feeling well, around 5 o’clock I felt like I had been hit with a sack of bricks. I have no idea why, but I’m feeling pretty achy and exhausted!

My left wrist is still hurting pretty bad today, and my right wrist and ankles feel stiff, I don’t like it one bit. The Shred and Shed is pretty intensive with moves and exercises that put a lot of stress on the wrists, so is the yoga meltdown. Knowing I needed to give my wrists a rest and probably my ankles as well, I took what I’m calling an active rest day. If I had access it would have been a good day for a swim, but I did the next best thing. Walked! Low impact but still gets the heart pumping. I used a Leslie Sansone DVD to walk 4 miles in my living room, I would have gone outside but it was raining and I don’t have a good jacket for a wet workout. I just wanted something to keep me moving but not a super duper workout, ya know what I mean? See Active Rest Day!

Afterwards I did some standing ab work. Side Crunches, Standing Pikes, Standing Bicycle Crunches, Leg Raises, and Knee Lift Crunches. 25 of everything on each side, and repeat. My abs really felt it, and I like doing standing work to help improve my balance and strengthen the back more than floor crunches.

No stress on my wrists, except from all this typing. So over and out! I have a healthy recipe to share tomorrow!


Random Revelations

Hi friends!

Another great day in the books over here.

I tried something new this morning, I got my workout in before breakfast. I had half a banana then did level one of The Extreme Shed and Shred and one 10 minute segment of a kickboxing DVD I have. I’m just not a fan of the morning workout, I need to wake up completely before I start sweating it out. I find that when I’m working out in the mornings I tend to give up easily and stop intervals early. I think I’ll stick to eating my breakfast and completely waking up first.

Now the reason, I decided to do just level one of the shed and shred is because I seemed to have hurt my wrist somehow. The second level of the DVD is a little more stressful on the wrists with more planks and pushups. Once I started the kickboxing DVD I immediately was bored so I shut it off.

This weekend I got a much needed hair cut, which revitalized my desire to actually do my  hair. I’m so lazy, I rarely do my hair…but I really love new style. Turns out other people notice when I put a little time and energy into my appearance, almost every regular customer mention it today. I’m seriously going to put more effort into myself. I find it ironic that I spend so much of my energy into changing my body when I can do a few easy things like blow dry my hair and swipe on some mascara.

It definitely helps that my confidence is improving every day.

Today someone gave me a pair of pants that are too small for them. That’s never happened before, maybe if something was too big they would pass it my way, but never when it was too small. Oh and the pants fit! That’s a real confidence boost.

I’m really happy with my healthy eating lately, here’s what I had today.

Quaker Oat Squares with the other half of my ‘nana and milk.

Leftovers for lunch, my Spicy Orange Chicken with brown rice and veggies

For snack, I made a Peppermint Mocha Protein Shake. It was delicious and nutritious. Plus whip cream for fun!

One slice of spinach and mushroom pizza and two cups of cauliflower. I’d really like to have another slice of pizza but I will resist. (I can’t figure out how to turn this picture since my browser updated. sad face!)

I’ve been really trying to concentrate on how foods make me feel and how my body reacts to them. I’ve never really been one to pay attention to those kinds of things. One thing I’ve noticed is that when I have carbs for breakfast like cereal or oatmeal, I get hungry again quick but that doesn’t happy when I eat eggs. Very interesting to learn, maybe cereal needs to be snack and not breakfast.

Well now its time to snuggle up with big glass of water….and watch some AFV!

Yoga Class & A New DVD

One of the last things to cross of my 2012 Bucketlist was take a yoga class. I’ve used yoga DVDs at home for a couple of years now, and I even did a yoga bootcamp at home last Novemeber using a program I found on ExerciseTV.But I’ve always wanted to go to yoga class because I felt like it would be more challenging and fun, however, in my little town of Moses Lake there are no yoga studios. Luckily, the Parks and Rec department offers a few yoga classes although the schedule is very limited, I was able to find a class that works with my schedule on Monday nights.

I really enjoy my class, its led by a woman, and her husband helps out with positioning and adjustments. The moment I walked into class on the very first day, I felt welcome. They both introduced themselves and remember my name right away. During the first two weeks I was still pregnant, which I had mention to her so she was quick to offer alternatives to the moves I should have avoided. Then when I was back to class after surgery, I let her know what happened to I could get the full benefits from the class. I felt very fortunate that she did not draw attention to me and my situation because I would have been embarrassed. She even offered to let me attend the other class on Thursdays which is led by another lady to make up the one I missed, but it won’t work with my schedule.

Overall, I really like the class, for the most part, its more about getting a good stretch rather than physical activity like most of the DVDs I own. Which after a hard workout like I did yesterday, it feels really good to get that guided stretch.

I would definitely sign up for another class! The class is post-poned for the next two weeks but I plan to use my DVDs at home on a more regular basis anyway so I will still be getting a good stretch.

Yesterday I had trouble getting myself motivated to workout, I was tired from working the morning shift, which meant a 4:00 am wake up but I got my self in gear and got it done. I did Jillian Michael’s Extreme Shed and Shred, she means business in this one. I just bought it the other day and I’ve done it three times, only two all the way through and it’s killer.

I was totally exhausted afterwards!

I also got these new yoga pants…in a medium! I love the lime green zebra detail. My only complaint is that the waist band is really small so it rolls down. I like the ones with fat waist bands.

Today I’m trying something totally new….Pilates. My mother in law gave me some weird Pilates machine and I have no idea how it works but I’m going to give it a shot! So be sure to check back.

In totally unrelated news, two people told me that I look like two different people with my hair up vs being down. What do you think?
