Chat With Me

Hello!

I’m feeling very chatty tonight! So this will be a babbling type of post.

The last couple of days have been pretty interesting. I’m experiencing some serious swelling! Its mostly in my hands and face but we were pretty active yesterday so my feet are slightly swollen and sore today. 20140113-153436.jpgIts pretty noticeable to me in this picture from my Wordless Weekend post. It looks like a looooong cry but I didn’t. I also had to take my wedding ring off. Boo. The good news….that Seahawks t-shirt is wayyyy too big! Thank Goodness! I borrowed it from my father-in-law.

Speaking of Seahawks…The game this weekend was awesome but I’m nervous for the game next weekend. Eek. Truth be told, I have very little interest in football but my hubs loves it so I’ve watched most of the games this year.

Yesterday, Blake and I took Kia for a walk and I was having some pretty uncomfortable pain. I hope its a sign that everything is moving right along and I’ll be holding my baby soon! Later in the afternoon we went to Wenatchee with our closest friends. It was so nice to get to hangout with our friends and do a little shopping. We didn’t purchase a lot of stuff but we did get a new bed spread and a Jack La Lanne juicer (just like the one I was borrowing! It was on SALE at Costco).  I can’t wait to have some fresh juice again!

I also picked up a few things for the baby. Letters to put her initials on the wall, felt to make something special, and a pack of bottles. I am planning to breastfeed but I will eventually need to pump when I go back to work.

Have you heard of eMeals? I’ve been lucky enough to get to try out their service and I’m LOVING it. Look at this delicious soup I made tonight…

2014-01-13 18.14.52Spicy Taco Soup. Mm..mmm..mmm…delicious. This will be a repeat meal for sure. Doesn’t hurt that they say spicy food can bring on labor. Although the heartburn tonight could be killer. Maybe I shouldn’t have taken that risk.

Also, I’ve been seriously hungry lately. Like seriously. I often wonder, how is it possible to be this hungry all the time? I need something to eat at least every two hours.

I’ve definitely re-fallen in love with blogging over the last few weeks. Although I’m still working on switching my brain over….remembering to take photos and notes of what I’d like to write about it. It feels really good to write about whatever comes to mind. I’ve actually been thinking about “re-branding” this blog. I like writing about life and fun things I’ve been doing, and I know I’ll be writing about baby Elizabeth all time. (sorry, I’m not sorry) I wonder if that means I need to change the title of my blog? I still want to write about fitness, running, and losing the baby weight, but it probably won’t be the predominate topic around here anymore.  I’m still mulling things over. Maybe a fresh headline would work.

What do you think? I’d love to hear what you think.

2014-01-09 19.22.19-2Lastly, the baby’s room is ready! Or at least as ready as its going to be while we live in this house. I’m going to work on editing the pictures so you guys can see everything. I’m super excited!

I think that’s everything on my mind tonight. Thanks for stickin’ around!

Good night! Hopefully the nursery post will be ready tomorrow.

The Current Workout Situation

Happy Thursday Night! I’m pretty pumped that its almost the weekend….one work day to go.

Maybe you’ve noticed that one thing has been missing around here…..workout posts. Err…..or maybe any mention of workouts.

I feel like its time to confess. I haven’t completed a workout in weeks. Sadly, I can’t even remember the last time I worked out. That’s bad.

You know, I had these grand intentions of having a super active pregnancy. Running all the way up until delivery, walking everyday…never having any trouble getting in a sweat session. Then I was sick….with morning sickness. Every. Single. Day. It’s hard to find the energy to run when you have used up all your energy puking.

I did the best I could! I ran when I could. I even wrote this post for For Two Fitness with my Top Tips for Running During Pregnancy!  Please click over & read it! I’m really proud of it. They also have super cute workout clothes for expecting mamas.

By the time I felt better, good enough to run again, my body had already started to change to make room for the baby. My knees were hurting. It took me longer to catch my breath. Things jiggled…and it was painful!

2013-10-26 17.14.36

In October (at approximately 25 weeks), I completed the Home Sweet Home Virtual 5k held by my friend Sarah at Losing Weight & Having Fun. It was so hard! I thought I’d be able to do at least do walk/run intervals but I couldn’t. I had to walk. It was totally unexpected. It felt like I couldn’t breathe when I would run. Walking the 5k was fun, especially, since I convinced Blake to do it with me but I was still a little disappointed that running was so tough.

After that things went downhill….or rather just flat. Now that I think about it…that might have been my last workout. I’m a little bit shocked that its been so long! Just over two months. Yikes.

Deep down I know that its just an excuse. I could have, should have, really needed to push through it but I didn’t. But I’m not going to beat myself up about it. I mean, what good would that do anyway?

I am however, getting really anxious and excited to get back into the groove of things after the baby comes! I plan to bundle her up and go for walks as soon as I’m recovered. I know it will be tough to start from over from an endurance and fitness standpoint but I’m looking forward to the challenge. I don’t have a plan (yet). I’m just going to take it one day at time and see where things go.

I feel extremely confident about returning to my old running and workout habits post baby. It will be a whole new experience with having to balance motherhood with work and working out, but I can do it. I’m looking forward to do it!

Baby A Update: ONE MONTH TO GO! (36 Weeks)

My oh my! We have only ONE month until Baby Alexander is due to arrive! There is no containing my excitement! I’m so ready for her to be here now! Blake is excited too, he’s hoping for a baby for his birthday this Sunday.

babyToday marks 35 weeks and 4 days!

According to What to Expect, baby is now the size of a large cantaloupe! She’s between 19 – 22 inches long, and weighs are around 6 pounds. All of her tiny little organs are fully functioning and ready to enter the world! Except for the digestion system which starts working once she has her first meal.

Mama Details:

The last few weeks have been a lot of fun. I can tell that the baby is big! I feel her completely stretched out, at times she is pushing from the top and the bottom. It feels like her feet are fluttering right below my breasts, I like to imagine her little feet kicking like she’s swimming. And I also feel pressure low in my pelvis. She moves almost all day long, or at least it feels like it.

DSC_0007Blake & I on Christmas Eve!

I do have some days where I feel pretty uncomfortable. I have pain in my low back/tail bone area almost everyday, And forget about leaning forward. She just takes up so much space, leaning forward just presses on her and its so uncomfortable.

Most of my clothes don’t fit! Even the maternity shirts, with only a month left – I DO NOT want to buy more giant clothes, I’d rather save my money for buying new smaller, regular sized clothes. I’m pretty much just wearing long under shirts with sweaters and cover ups. It seems to be working! Then at home, I kinda just like all hang out, but only at home.

You know, I think we are ready for this little girl to come! The nursery is practically done, just a thing or two left to do. The car seat is by the door and the bag is packed. Oh here’s what’s I’ve packed:

baby's hospital bag1. Swaddle blanket from my friend, Emily
2. Car seat cozy blanket that I made to keep her nice and toasty3. Super soft, bigger blanket from my friend, Tara
4. A couple of newborn size diapers and small pack of wipes*
5. Size 0-3 months onsie in case she is bigger than newborn size
6. Her coming home outfit, the same outfit that Blake and I first picked out when we found out she was coming! Complete with a ducky bib, mittens, and little hat.
7. Little grooming kit from my sister. It has tiny nail files, clippers, comb, soft hair brush, and little spray bottle.*

* We may not need these, because the hospital supplies most of the things she will need right away, but I’m taking it with us anyway.

hospital bag for parents1. Sock and undies2. Deoderant
3. Tums. I will need lots of these I’m sure!
4. Reusable bag for whatever
5. Reusable nursing pads
6. Clothes. T-shirt, tanks with built in bra, and yoga pants
7. Warm, cozy socks
8. Toiletries: shampoo & conditioner, lotion, chapstick, hair balm to take my curls, tooth paste, tooth brush, and comb. Everything in sample size so it doesn’t take up a lot of space!

There are also some things we will need to grab because we use them daily. Like my phone charger, my new fuzzy robe, and my contact stuff.

Did I miss anything?

Hopefully, this everything we will need. I’ve looked over some lists by other mothers, and went with the minimalist approach. I tend to be an over-packer and then never use the stuff I take with me.

So I’m thinking we are ready! I do need to actually put the car seat in the car, but for some reason I’m worried about not having my car when I go into labor.

I’m hoping to do a nursery reveal this weekend or early next week!

Baby It’s Cold Outside [Shower]

Well this post is a little late! I have tons to blog about and I promise I really am getting back into the swing of things! …

A few weeks ago, my best friend Kate threw me the BEST baby shower ever!

DSC_0116

Months ago, we chatted/brainstormed/dreamed causally about baby showers and I totally fell in love with the Baby, it’s cold outside theme we saw on pinterest!

baby showerFront of invitation! (Confession: I designed these myself based off one I saw on Pinterest! I really love designing these types of things!)

baby-shower-backAnd the back! They were postcards. I loveeeee them! Simple but fun!

Kate totally delivered a baby shower above and beyond anything I expected! The whole thing was so thought out and well planned. I loved every bit of it!

DSC_0048There was tons of candy! We also had a hot cocoa bar yet there are no pictures of it!

DSC_0119 My friend, Tara! She’s my “mommy friend” since she already has three beautiful girls!

The shower was so much fun! I loved sitting around with my friends and family talking all things baby! I’m one lucky lady to have so many amazing people in my life!

Our Christmas [2013]

How was your Christmas??

Mine was so wonderful, seriously wonderful. I love spending time with my families!

Christmas TreeOur Red, White, & Blue Tree

I grew up living very close to my aunts and cousins so holidays were always filled with arguments, fighting, and stress. Although, I miss my cousins with all my heart- its pretty nice to spend time with just my immediate family.

I also love being with my husband’s family! This was my fourth Christmas with them, and seriously it’s like I’ve been a part of the family all along. I feel very lucky to be a part of their family.

For Blake and I, the Christmas season starts on Christmas Eve with a big family dinner and gift exchange at his Grandma’s house. The whole family is always there, and we have delicious, delicious prime rib…its such a great time.

familyAfter dinner we had a gift exchange where we had previously drawn someone’s name and one of those Chinese Gift Exchange type gift exchanges. It’s always fun to watch people’s gifts get stolen and traded.

Christmas morning is spent with Blake’s parents, his sister, and her boyfriend. The last few years we have spent the night at their house to make things easier, but next year we will live a lot close to them!

I feel so blessed because the one “big thing” I still wanted to get for the baby’s room was a glider rocker, like this one.

I’m so thankful! I can’t wait to rock the baby to sleep in her quite room, in this super comfy chair. Its going to be so wonderful. My goal this weekend is to get the one last piece of furniture that needs painted done!

After all the fun was had, we loaded up the car to head home because I had to cook big dinner for my family! I LOVE cooking Christmas dinner! This is my third year cooking for my family and it was by far the best!

We had turkey, ham (using this crock pot method), garlic mash potatoes with turkey gravy, layered sweet potatoes, stuffing, corn, green beans, and rolls. Plus I made two pumpkin pies!

Roasted TurkeyOk, I was super proud of my beautiful roasted turkey! Sure it was a little over cooked, but still delicious. I rubbed the outside with a little mix of olive oil, fresh “poultry” herbs, salt and pepper – which I blended in to a pesto of sorts and Inside was a honeycrisp apple and a lemon. It really turned out great. And for the first time ever I used the drippings to make gravy which was big hit with everyone!

We have tons of turkey leftover so we are going to be picking it off the bones and making some freezer meals for when the baby comes! I’m thinking some turkey chili, turkey noodle soup, and rice casserole!

Presents with my family is so much fun because my brother has little kids! AH! Kids are just too fun! As a family “us kids” got my mom a Kindle Fire and she loved it! She was just as excited as the kids! Once she opened that thing she was zoned in!

Then we took our family picture!

DSC_0071What good lookin’ family! Well except the one on the end, but we don’t claim him very often.

Our Christmas was a huge success! Although by the end of the night, I was exhausted. A busy Christmas day at 8 months pregnant is like running a 8 miles…afterwards I had to take an ice bath for my feet and ankles. In fact, I’m still a little sore today.

But I’ll take the soreness right along with the amazing family! Love them all!

Tell me about your Christmas! Leave a link if you wrote about it!

Baby A Update: 34 Weeks

Well, I’ve been missing in action a little bit, I just haven’t been making blogging a priority but I’m ready to get back into action. I have a lot to write about, so let’s start right away with a baby update!

baby

It’s been a month since my late update! Yikes!

Let’s see…we are officially in the 34th week, today makes 33 weeks and 2 days! According to What to Expect… the baby is around the size of a pineapple. She is between 18-20 inches long and around 4.9 pounds. We actually had an ultrasound the weekend and it looked like baby girl was around 4 lbs and 12 ounces. So she’s on track to be around 8lbs at birth…ummm WOW! And her head was 30 centimeters around (HUGE!). Of course, these were just estimates but wow oh wow…sounds…well…painful.

DSC_0013Baby’s First Christmas Ornament from her Nana & Papa

This mama is doing pretty good. I’ve had a few sick days recently, but overall, I think I’m doing pretty good. Although, I am tired most of time. I wake up a couple times each night, mostly to use the bathroom or I wake up super early. Its not too bad though. I feel like things are going pretty great!

33 weeksHere is a selfie from 33 weeks.

34 weeksAnd another from today for 34 weeks. I swear this belly just doubled in size two days ago! Its huge! Also, I’m pretty proud of this stylish outfit.

With just about 6 weeks left things are getting serious! There is so much left to do…the room isn’t anywhere close to ready! But we are getting there….We’ve got our hospital bag packed, the car seat is out of the box ready to be buckled in, and thanks to my amazing baby shower, the dresser is packed full of clothes!

We even bought diapers and wipes this weekend. Things are really getting serious!

I’m looking forward to get all the ducks in a row.

I’ll be back to tell you all about the baby shower, and life.
